Ellie Brook writes the Heart to Heart Animal Stories, a fun and heartfelt chapter book series for kids ages 8–11. Inspired by her own German Shepherd, Ellie creates gentle, humorous adventures that help children explore everyday challenges with courage and confidence. Through Shadow’s world, young readers discover that big feelings are normal—and that bravery happens one small step at a time.

The Inspiration Behind the Stories 

These books were inspired by Ellie Brook’s own German Shepherd, Shadow, and the everyday adventures of family life. Real moments—like trying something new, feeling nervous, or learning an important lesson—became the heart of each story.

Through Shadow’s eyes, Ellie shows young readers that big feelings are a normal part of growing up, and that courage doesn’t have to be loud or bold. Sometimes bravery is simply taking one small step forward.

Meet the Real Pets 

The characters in the Heart to Heart Animal Stories are inspired by Ellie Brook’s real-life furry family!

Shadow – A loyal and loving German Shepherd who inspired the entire series. She’s brave, curious, a little silly, and always ready for an adventure—just like the Shadow in the books.

Snowball – A fluffy black-and-white cat with a calm, sweet personality. Snowball loves naps, sunshine, and pretending she isn’t secretly in charge of the whole house.

Smokey – A playful gray cat with lots of attitude and plenty of mischief. Smokey keeps everyone on their toes and brings humor to every situation.

Together, these three real pets helped inspire stories about courage, friendship, patience, and the everyday moments that make life special.

Life Beyond Writing 

Ellie lives with her two daughters, Gabriella and Haleigh, who are her greatest inspiration and first readers. When she is not writing, Ellie enjoys reading children’s books, spending time outdoors, and dreaming up new ideas for future stories.

She believes that every child deserves books that help them feel brave, understood, and never alone.
